THE MUSEUM

The Capodistrias Museum – Center of Capodistrian Studies is the first and only museum dedicated to Ioannis Capodistrias and is housed in Koukouritsa, one of the country estates of the Capodistrias family in Corfu, designated a historic monument by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

The Capodistrias Museum – Center of Capodistrian Studies was the vision of a great Cofiot Maria Capodistria-Desylla (1898-1980), the great granddaughter of the Governor’s younger brother, who donated the historic estate of Koukouritsa, as well as the collection of personal and family heirlooms of the Capodistrias family, to three intellectual institutions in Corfu—the Reading Society of Corfu, the Philharmonic Society of Corfu (Old Philharmonic) and the Society for Corfiot Studies—with the intention that a museum should be opened there, dedicated to ‘the great son of the land’ and with the wish that, in future, it would house the Capodistrias Archive.
